CCG Research Associates have Ph.D. degrees and offer extensive industry project experience. In addition to performing independent CCG research, they advise students, conduct graduate student seminars, and consult on industry projects.
Camilla Zacche da Silva
Research Associate
Camilla Zacche da Silva, completed her B.Sc. in Physics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil in 2010. In 2013 completed the MSc. in Mining Engineering, at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. The M.Sc. dissertation focused on the use of factorization methods applied to resource estimation for complex multivariate deposits. During the M.Sc. has received two awards referring to the work developed on factorization methods: 36th-APCOM SME Scholarship (2013) and CBMINA – Graduate student category, 2nd place (2014). Completed the Ph.D. in Mining Engineering in 2018 at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, with research focused on better ore grade predictions with incomplete data sets. In 2020 Received the Wardell Armstrong Prize from IOM3 for the paper published related to her Ph.D. thesis.

Gamze Erdogan Erten
Research Associate
Gamze Erdogan Erten received the BSc and MSc degrees in Mining Engineering from Hacettepe University and Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Turkey in 2013 and 2017, respectively. She spent a semester at Curtin University’s Western Australian School of Mines in the scope of her MSc project. She is currently working as a research assistant and pursuing her Ph.D. study at the Mining Engineering Department at Eskisehir Osmangazi University. She recently joined the CCG research group as a visiting researcher at the University of Alberta.

Background Before Joining the CCG
Mostafa was a Ph.D. student in the CCG from 2013 to 2017. He obtained his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology (Tehran, Iran) in 2008 and his M.Sc. in the same field from Sharif University of Technology (Tehran, Iran) in 2011. Before joining CCG, he was a Research Assistant in the Canadian Surgical Technologies and Advanced Robotics (CSTAR). Mostafa also holds an M.Esc in Biomedical engineering from the University of Western Ontario.

Oktay Erten
Research Associate
Oktay Erten is qualified as a mining engineer with a Ph.D. degree from the University of Queensland, Australia. His research project, which was sponsored by Rio Tinto Alcan, focused on modeling the base of a lateritic bauxite deposit using borehole and geophysical data. After obtaining his doctoral degree in 2012, he worked as a lecturer in mining engineering at Curtin University’s Western Australian School of Mines (WASM) for five years. During his appointment at WASM, he was involved in several teaching, research, and administrative activities. In 2017, he moved to Fontainebleau, France to pursue a post master’s degree in Geostatistics (CFSG) at Centre de Géosciences (Mines Paris Tech) for one year. After the completion of his degree in Fontainebleau, he has recently joined the Centre for Computational Geostatistics as a research associate.

Zahra Hadavand
Research Associate
Zahra received the MSc and PhD degrees in Geomatics Engineering from the University of Calgary in 2020. Before joining CCG, she worked as a research assistant at U of C in the integration and calibration of ranging and imaging systems such as terrestrial laser scanners for accurate 3D spatial modeling, feature extraction, and metric inspection of infrastructures. She is currently working as a research associate at CCG. She is interested in continuing research in spatial statistics to improve quantifying and integrating uncertainty in the modeling of geospatial variables.
